About This Car
Light, communicative, and mechanically fuel-injected: the tii distills BMW’s driver-first DNA into a compact classic. Quick throttle, crisp steering, everyday usability. BMW’s 02 Series rewrote the compact sports-saloon rulebook in the late ’60s, setting the template that would become the 3 Series. Introduced in 1971, the tii (“Touring Internationale, injected”) added Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection to the 02 platform, lifting output to 130 PS (96 kW) with immediate response. Combined with a sub-1,050 kg curb weight, independent suspension (MacPherson struts front, semi-trailing arms rear) and front discs, it set the template for the modern sports saloon that later evolved into the 3 Series. A 1972 example retains the slim chrome bumpers and the early, clean look enthusiasts prize.
